How to find a good travel nursing agency.

Defined Tag:

Today travel nursing has become one of the US fastest growing professions and it's no surprise really. But many nurses have shied away from the traveling profession as they have had a bad experience with a travel nursing agency and thus left them with nothing but a negative impression of this type of work. They may have been underpaid or not had enough benefits and because of this many nurses find themselves jumping from one agency to the next in order to try and find the perfect travel nursing job.

But when choosing an agency to help you find that right position you need to consider the 4 following items.

1. Salary
Unfortunately there are some agencies which offer more money than others so the first thing to remember is that agencies may base their salaries on things like location availability, need to fill assignments and the cost of living.

There are some agencies which offer noticeably higher rates if they expect to fill certain assignments for example where the nurse to patient ratio is very low or where a facility has patients with extreme needs. So if you are a nurse that is attracted to positions with high wages then be alert that you may be entering a potentially desperate situation and also the workload that it may entail. You may be making more money but you will earn every dollar that you make or more.

Also location plays an important factor in the salary a travel nurse earns as some places may be more expensive to live in than others.

2. Benefits
Although some companies may offer low salaries they may make this up with benefits. Many agencies offer benefit programs that revolve around monetary bonuses or discounted luxury housing. But be aware that these agencies may not offer really high salaries and instead will compensate you with benefits that will help you to save on your daily, weekly, monthly or yearly expenses instead. So every nurse when looking to taking up travel nursing should be aware of what benefits they need the most and discuss with their recruiter so that they can develop a package that will be tailored to their particular needs.

3. Customer Service
To many who are already traveling nurses both customer service and assistance from the place agency are important and if you happen to call 10 agencies and only speak to one live recruiter then it is probably better if you can narrow down to an agency where individual placement specialists are easily available. After all when you are ready to proceed with a new assignment you will want your agency to make it happen fast and have recruiters available who understand your requirements. So determine what you want and then find an agency which can make this happen for you.

4. Featured Locations
For some nurses a good salary, benefits and career flexibility may be the reason they chose to do travel nursing, whilst for others it is because they want to travel and see the world. So if you are someone who wants a little adventure in their lives then it is vital that you seek a travel nursing agency which can offer you the locations that you are after.

Unfortunately not every travel nursing agency will be able to provide you with opportunities to travel the world.
